Lizigou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The naming section is section 8600 of the East open-cut mine of Wushun, Liaoning. The reference section is section 500 of the West open-cut mine. Named by Hong Youchong et al. in 1974; its age is Eocene. In 1980 he divided the original Laohutai Fm into the Laohutai Fm and Lizigou Fm and assigned their age to Paleocene.
Lithology and Thickness
This formation consists dominantly of volcanic rocks such as tuff with coal bed group A. Composed of grayish white, grayish black, light green and grayish green tuff, tuffaceous breccia and sandstone with grayish black shale and coal beds. It is generally 76.5–115 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is disconformable with the underlying Paleocene Laohutai Fm.
Upper contact
It is continuous with its overlying Eocene Guchengzi Fm.
Regional extent
In the Fushun area, Liaoning, the formation appears discontinuously, and from west to east it becomes thin progressively and exhibits distinct facies change.

Fossils
This formation yields silified wood. The sporopollen assemblage is essentially similar to that of the Laohutai Formation; however, the content of some individual species is slightly less. The pollen of angiosperms accounts for only 84–96%; gymnosperms 2–16% and spores only 0–10%.
